Licensed Clinical Psychologist | Founder & CEO

Dr. Joanna Marino is a licensed clinical psychologist and Founder of Fairfax Therapy Group in Fairfax, Virginia. She specializes in treating children, adolescents, and adults experiencing complex mental health concerns, including OCD and anxiety, anorexia nervosa, ARFID, hair-pulling, skin-picking, self-injury, and chronic suicidality. She also has a particular interest in PANS/PANDAS and chronic medical conditions that affect emotional and behavioral health. Joanna works closely with families and caregivers, recognizing how challenging it can be when someone they love is struggling.

Joanna is a DBT-Linehan Board Certified Clinician with extensive training in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) for adults, adolescents, and children (DBT-C). She also specializes in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), and Family-Based Treatment (FBT) for eating disorders. She holds certification in FBT through the Training Institute for Child and Adolescent Eating Disorders and has completed intensive training in Radically Open DBT (RO-DBT). In addition to individual therapy, Joanna works with high-conflict couples and families using Alan Fruzzetti's DBT-based approach to improving communication, emotional regulation, and relationships.

Joanna earned her PhD and MA from the University of North Dakota and completed her predoctoral clinical internship at the University of Florida/Shands Hospital, with rotations in pediatric psychology, medical psychology, and neuropsychology. She is also pursuing advanced education in clinical psychopharmacology through Fairleigh Dickinson University, further strengthening her understanding of the relationship between psychological and medical treatment.

As a participant in PSYPACT, Joanna can provide telepsychology services across participating states where she is appropriately authorized. Her approach emphasizes evidence-based treatment, collaboration, and helping individuals and families make meaningful changes in their daily lives. As Founder and CEO of Fairfax Therapy Group, she brings that same commitment to developing a team of clinicians who provide thoughtful, effective mental health care throughout Northern Virginia.
